This month is National Pet Month. Many of us have got Pets, and even if you don't have pets, you know someone who has got pets and get to enjoy their company.
When I was younger, I always had Pets. We had cats, birds, rabbits and guinea pigs. As I got older, I didn't have time to have a pet and look after them the way they deserve, as my life was pretty hectic, always in the fast lane and was rarely at home.
Forward to 2019, my life changed; I had a major operation on my knee, which triggered my Mental Health - Anxiety and Depression. It was really hard, but with my support network, my therapist and GP and hard work, I started to get better.
One day in 2020, I decided I would get a Cat. I didn't know if it was a good idea or not, as I just about managed to look after myself. I went to see Ginger, and for some reason, he picked me, and he came home with me that day.
Ginger was nervous and anxious, so we got to know each other step by step, helping our recovery.
Having Ginger in my life gave me purpose, company and someone to care for. Playing with him, giving him treats, helping him to get confident to go outside and let me pick him up. He has given me so much love affection in return, now and then the unwanted presents of a bird and lately a mouse, but when I am having a bad day, he will lay on my legs or my feet to give me the comfort I need and won't leave my side for too long.
On the good days, watching him play, sleeping on my bed or sofa, giving him his treats, seeing him happy makes my good days even better, and I love him even more. Watching him bond with my niece and a couple of my neighbours give me joy.
Here are some photos of my lovely boy.
Here are some photos of other people pets when I have been out and about.
